Marketing Manager Resume Example

Marketing resumes live or die on attribution. Campaign activity is easy to list and nearly impossible to evaluate, so the strongest resumes name the channel, the spend, and what the spend returned. If you owned a budget, that number belongs near the top.

What recruiters scan for on a marketing manager resume

  • Budget owned and channels run — paid, lifecycle, content, brand, or a mix
  • Pipeline or revenue attribution, not impressions and follower counts
  • The martech stack named in the job description: HubSpot, Marketo, Salesforce, GA4
  • Team and agency management scope, since manager roles are partly people roles
  • B2B versus B2C fit — the two are screened almost as separate professions

ATS keywords for marketing manager roles

Terms that genuinely appear in marketing manager job descriptions. Use the ones that are true of you — keyword stuffing is obvious to a human reader and does not help the score.

Weak vs strong bullets for a marketing manager

Managed social media accounts and grew the following.

Grew LinkedIn from 4k to 31k followers in 14 months and turned it into the second-largest source of demo requests — 22% of inbound pipeline at a $0 media budget.

Follower growth alone is a vanity metric. Connecting it to pipeline share and noting the zero budget turns it into a commercial result a CFO would care about.

Ran paid advertising campaigns across multiple channels.

Owned a $1.4M annual paid budget across Google, LinkedIn and paid social; cut blended CAC 34% by killing two underperforming channels and reallocating to intent-based search.

States the budget you were trusted with, the decision you made, and the efficiency gain — the three things a hiring manager needs to size your seniority.

Improved the company's SEO and content marketing.

Rebuilt the content programme around 40 bottom-of-funnel comparison pages, taking organic from 9k to 74k monthly sessions and 18% of new trials within a year.

Names the specific strategy (BOFU comparison pages) rather than the discipline, and reports both traffic and its conversion contribution.

Worked with sales to generate more leads.

Built the MQL-to-SQL handoff with sales leadership — shared definitions, a scoring model in HubSpot, and a weekly pipeline review — lifting MQL-to-SQL conversion from 12% to 29%.

Marketing-sales alignment is a stated pain in most JDs. Showing you built the mechanism, not just attended the meetings, is a differentiator.

Common marketing manager resume mistakes

Reporting activity instead of return

"Sent 40 campaigns" and "published 60 blog posts" measure effort. Hiring managers buy outcomes: pipeline, CAC, ROAS, conversion. Convert every activity bullet into its result.

Vanity metrics without commercial context

Impressions, reach and follower counts are weak on their own. Tie them to a downstream number, or cut them for something that moved revenue.

Hiding the budget

Budget owned is one of the fastest seniority signals available. Omitting it makes a manager look like a coordinator; include it even when the figure is modest.

One resume for B2B and B2C roles

The buying cycles, metrics and vocabulary differ sharply. A B2B resume emphasising pipeline and ABM reads as a poor fit for a DTC brand role, and an ATS tuned to the other vocabulary will score it low.

Marketing Manager resume FAQ

Should I include campaign metrics I cannot verify?

Include figures you could defend in an interview. If exact numbers are confidential, use percentage change or relative scale. Inventing metrics is the fastest way to fail a second-round conversation.

How do I show impact if marketing attribution is messy?

Be explicit about the model you used — last touch, multi-touch, self-reported — and report influenced pipeline rather than claiming sole credit. Naming the attribution method signals rigour rather than weakness.

Which martech tools should I list?

The ones in the job description that you have genuinely used, and the platform you know deeply. Listing twelve tools shallowly is worse than three you could be interviewed on.

Does a marketing resume need design flourish?

Restraint reads better and parses more reliably. If you want to show craft, link a portfolio or a campaign; keep the resume itself clean so the ATS extracts it correctly.
